During the last decade of his life, artist Henri Matisse created a world of plants, animals, figures and shapes in a wide range of color and complexity, using paper and a pair of scissors.

Samantha Friedman, Assistant Curator in the Department of Drawings and Prints at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, will be presenting us with a behind the scenes look at the most comprehensive exhibition of Matisse’s cut outs ever mounted. As we examine this final chapter in Matisse’s long career we will learn how his skills as master colorist and draftsman gave him the ability to “cut directly into color” and “draw with scissors.”
