Morris County Man Charged in Madison Robbery

A county man allegedly robbed a store's cash register after diverting employees, authorities said.

A Morristown man has been charged in a Madison robbery after allegedly robbing a store’s cash register, authorities said.

Mark Gero, 57, of Morristown, was charged after being identified allegedly committing a a diversionary theft at the Main Street Wine Cellar on March 22, according to a report from NJ.com.

Madison Police responded to the store after reports of theft. A store employee reportedly said she was distracted by a customer and quickly realized the customer took nearly $300 from the register, the report said.

An investigation into the the incident led to Gero being identified in the theft. Gero, who was already being held at the Morris County Correctional Facility on an unrelated charge, was served with an additional charge of theft, NJ.com reported. Bail was set at $10,000.
