Pittsburgh Pirates Select Madison Native in MLB Draft
A Madison native was selected in the 30th round of the 2015 MLB Draft.
A Madison native and Fairfield University baseball player was selected in the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
The Pittsburgh Pirates selected former Madison High School Dodger Mike Wallace in the 30th round of the draft, with the 907th overall pick, according to MLB.com. Wallace, a pitcher, is listed a 6-feet-4-inches and 190 pounds.
Wallace is fifth all-time at Fairfield in both career earned run average (ERA) with a 3.35 ERA and in shutouts with two, according to the university’s athletics department. He also allowed the third fewest walks per nine inning with 2.00.

Wallace was selected to the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Second Team, MAAC Academic Honor Roll and MAAC All-Academic Team during the 2014 season, according to Fairfield University Athletics. Furthermore, he was the 2013 Fairfield University Freshman Athlete of the Year.
During his high school career, Wallace earned three varsity letters and finished his senior season with a 1.78 ERA and 9-2 record to help Madison to both conference and state section titles.

Wallace was the second Madison native selected in the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft after the Seattle Mariners selected Northeastern University’s Rob Fonseca in the 21st round.
