School Budget Intro, St. Baldrick's Events This Week

A look at what's happening this week in the Rose City.

Budget Meeting: The Madison Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Madison High School library to introduce the district's proposed 2013-2014 budget. The budget with will need to take into account steep increases in health insurance costs for employees and , officials have said. The total preliminary budget, including debt service, is over $40.5 million, according to a meeting agenda.

Bullpen Club Social: The Madison High School Bullpen Booster Club is hosting its 4th Annual Adult Social & Basket Raffle from 7:30 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Elks Lodge on Main Street. Come support the State Championship baseball program and enjoy a fun Saturday night out. This year’s event will take you away from the winter blues with a Luau-themed event, including a delicious Polynesian menu, dancing to a professional DJ and sports- and spa-style raffle baskets. Hawaiian shirt and golf putting contests will add to the entertainment. All proceeds will go toward supporting the needs of current and upcoming high school players. Adults only.

Spin-a-Thon: A three-hour spin-a-thon to benefit St. Baldrick's Childhood Cancer Research is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sunday at the Madison Area YMCA. Spin instructor Karen Tom and her son will be shaving their heads for the benefit. Any and all donations are welcome, as well as matching gifts.

St. Baldrick's Fundraiser at Poor Herbie's: The first St. Baldrick’s event in Madison will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday at Poor Herbie’s. Volunteers from Downtown Hair Salon will shave heads and Poor Herbie's will donate 10% of food and beverage proceeds from the event to St. Baldrick's.
