Superintendent's Statement Regarding Resignation
Noonan: Move makes great sense for my family on multiple levels.
A copy of Madison Superintendent Dr. Richard Noonan's statement issued on the Madison Public Schools Web site:
To Members of the Madison School District Community:
I have been offered and decided to accept a position as Superintendent of Schools in the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District, outside of Philadelphia, effective October 1, 2010. This was not an easy decision to reach, having had such an enormously satisfying experience of leading the Madison Schools for the last six years.

The move makes great sense for my family on multiple levels, and provides me with the opportunity to work in and contribute to a school community that shares the deep valuing of quality education that is found in Madison. I have already been working very closely with the Board of Education to plan for a smooth and effective transition in the administration of the school district.
Given the many skilled and talented people we have at all levels in the district, we are well-positioned to maintain the kind of education that people expect from our schools. Further information on specifics in replacing me as Superintendent of Schools will be made known by the Board of Education later on in July.

I am extremely grateful for dedication of our accomplished staff in my time leading the district, and the very generous support that parents and community members have given to our schools over the years. I am proud to have been given the opportunity to lead a great district, and believe the best years of the Madison Schools still lie ahead.
Rich Noonan, June 29, 2010
