Weed Found After Duo Steals American Flag In Madison: Cops

Pair of 19-year-olds were stopped by police Sgt. at 2 a.m., authorities report.

MADISON, N.J. – Two 19-year-olds walking through Madison in the wee hours of the morning were found to have drugs on them after allegedly taking an American flag from a public light post, police said.

At 2:26 a.m. on May 10, Madison Sgt. James Cavezza found Thomas Ziccarello, 19, of Queens, New York and a 19-year-old man from New Mexico walking down Main Street and carrying an American flag, Acting Lt. John Miscia said.

Cavezza spoke with both men and was told the flag was removed from a light post in the center of Madison and that one of the men wanted to display it inside their residences, Miscia said.

When speaking with the men, Cavezza also smelled burnt marijuana coming from the duo and found Ziccarello to be in possession of marijuana, Miscia said.

Another man was charged with theft and Ziccarello was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were released pending a court appearance.
