4 Car Thefts Reported In Maplewood, Police Say (Here’s Where)

Three of the stolen cars were left running, and the other was left parked with the keys inside, police said.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Several car thefts were recently reported in Maplewood, police say.

The Maplewood Police Department has released details about four recent thefts that took place in the township:

April 18 – “Maplewood police officers responded to a Sommer Avenue residence on a report of a stolen motor vehicle. The vehicle owner parked their 2020 Lexus in the driveway with the keys inside. The next morning, the vehicle owner discovered the vehicle stolen.”

April 21 – “Maplewood police officers and detectives responded to a Springfield Avenue business on a report of two males attempting to steal a motor vehicle. The vehicle owner left his Infiniti running in the business parking lot. Detectives were able to observe the males enter into the vehicle and attempt to flee in the vehicle. Detectives stopped and arrested Tasean Ellis, 18, of Irvington, and charged him with conspiracy to commit a burglary, and conspiracy to commit a motor vehicle theft. The other male fled the area on foot.”

April 22 – “Maplewood police officers responded to an Edmund Terrace residence on a report of a stolen motor vehicle. The vehicle owner left his 2010 Mercedes Benz running in front of the business. When the vehicle owner returned to their vehicle, they discovered it stolen. The vehicle was recovered in East Orange.”

April 22 – “Maplewood police officers responded to a Springfield Avenue business on a report of a stolen motor vehicle. The vehicle owner left his 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer running in front of their residence. When the vehicle owner returned to their vehicle, they discovered it stolen. The vehicle was recovered in Union.”
