Sunday: Maplewood And South Orange To Host Coronavirus Forum

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The towns of Maplewood and South Orange will hold a forum called "Ask the Experts, COVID-19 Town Hall and Q&A" this Sunday.
Advance registration is required. Use the Zoom link here. If it's filled you'll be directed to a YouTube channel to watch. You can also write a question to be answered.
Speakers will include Daniel Griffin, MD PhD, a clinical instructor of medicine at Columbia and chief of the division of infectious disease at ProHealth; Candice Davenport, the Health Officer for Maplewood's Public Health Division; South Orange OEM coordinator Scott Egelberg, and elected officials from both towns.

The event will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Over the weekend, the state of New Jersey said it had confirmed the highest number of new cases since in April. On Sunday, the State of New Jersey reported 18 new fatalities since the day before, and a record high of 4,540 new cases, following 4,395 positive cases on Saturday. Before that, the highest one-day total was 4,391 on April 17.

Doctors have said that a number of factors are contributing to the drop in the death rate since spring, including people getting test results (and thus treatment) sooner, more protective equipment available in hospitals, and doctors becoming better able to treat the virus. However, the virus still can have long-term effects.
