Meeting Will Address Upgrades To Valley Street In Maplewood

Essex County will give a presentation on improvements to intersections in Maplewood and South Orange via a virtual webinar next week.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Essex County will give a presentation on proposed improvements to Valley Street in Maplewood during a Maplewood Township Committee Meeting. The project will improve safety and overall operations at 11 intersections throughout Maplewood and South Orange townships.

According to the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority, Essex County received a $3,654,000 grant for the project through the NJTPA’s FY 2020 Local Safety Program (LSP). The grant includes funding for construction and construction inspection services.

Proposed improvements include: signal upgrades, pedestrian signal upgrades, curb-extensions where feasible, pedestrian refuge islands where feasible, and lead pedestrian intervals.

There will also be a new traffic signal at the intersection of Valley Street and First Street in South Orange.

The webinar will take place on Tuesday, June 21, at 7:30 p.m.
