Memorial, Viewing For Maplewood Chief Jimmy DeVaul: See Details And Parking Information
Residents may pay their respects at Thursday's viewing or Friday's memorial service for Police Chief Jimmy DeVaul.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The township has announced memorial service plans for Police Chief Jimmy DeVaul, who died suddenly last week.
DeVaul joined the Maplewood Police Department in 1993 and was named police chief in 2018. He died on Friday, Oct. 21 at the age of 53 after suffering a medical episode, officials said. Read more: Police Chief Remembered As Transformative Leader In Maplewood
DeVaul's obituary says he is survived by his wife Krista Vogrin DeVaul, whom he married in 2013, and five children: Jeramy DeVaul, Alexandria McGowan, Nicholas DeLucy, Thomas DeLucy, and Kevin McGowan.

His family asks that donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital be made, in lieu of flowers.
Several road closures will be in place Thursday and Friday in the township, for his viewing memorial services.

Viewing services: Thursday, Oct. 27 from 3-8 p.m. at the Jacoby A. Holly Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Avenue
Millburn Avenue will be closed Thursday between Springfield Avenue and Valley Street from 2-9 p.m., and there will be no access from any side streets, the township said.
Parking signs will be posted Wednesday on Overlook, Manley, Northview, and Melman terraces for residents who want to pay their respects.
Memorial service: Friday, Oct. 28 at 11:30 a.m. at Maplewood Town Hall.
Town Hall will be closed from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday.
People can see the procession on the sidewalk of Valley Street between Millburn and Oakview Avenues. Residents may also attend the ceremony on the north field of Memorial Park (at Town Hall). Valley Street will be closed between Millburn and Parker Avenues, the township said.
"The procession will travel north on Valley Street, being met by Essex County Pipes and Drums at Baker Street and Valley Street, and proceeding to the front steps of Town Hall," the township said.
"Once the procession has arrived at Town Hall, the closure will be condensed to Valley Street between Baker and Oakland Road, with a soft closure at Columbia High School. Temporary and electronic signage will be used to direct drivers."
After the service, there "will be a procession to several locations in Maplewood significant to Chief DeVaul which will involve temporary road closures."
