10-Year-Old Matawan Girl's Drawing Chosen By National Magazine

"Newly Fallen Snow," created by Nora Healey of Matawan, was selected from nearly 1,000 drawings by 8- to 14-year-olds from across the U.S.

MATAWAN, NJ — Have you ever read The Week? It's a weekly news magazine that provides intelligent, snappy and quick analysis of all the biggest worldwide news.

The Week is for adults, but they also publish The Week Junior, meant to inform older kids and teenagers about current events. And a 10-year-old girl from Matawan just won their winter-themed cover contest for 2023.

Nora Healey of Matawan submitted her winning drawing, "Newly Fallen Snow." Her hand-drawn illustration was selected from nearly 1,000 submissions from 8-14 year-olds across the country. Nora's drawing will be on the front cover of the Dec. 22 edition of The Week Junior, which will be shipped to more than 100,000 subscribers in America.

Their cover contest also attracted some big-name judges in the children's book world: Jeff Kinney (Diary of a Wimpy Kid), Sarah Sax (Picture Day) and Betty C. Tang (Parachute Kids) were among the judges, joined by The Week Junior’s Editor-in Chief Andrea Barbalich and creative director Dean Abatemarco.
