A baby girl was born at 2:30 a.m. July 7 inside her mother's Delaware Avenue bedroom. This Bayshore EMT recounts what she saw that night:
ABERDEEN, NJ — On Thursday, a volunteer Aberdeen Township EMT recounted how she, her Bayshore EMS partner and three Aberdeen police officers helped successfully deliver a baby girl inside a home on July 7.
Aberdeen Police officers Matthew McDow, Carmen Catena and Sergeant John Zeller were first on the scene in the 2 a.m. hour July 7 at the home on Delaware Avenue in the Cliffwood section. Those three officers were there when the mother, unidentified, pushed the baby out.
But Kayla DeBeVoise, 23, a volunteer for Bayshore EMS, recounts what transpired that evening:

"The call came in around 2:30 a.m.; the original dispatch was that a woman's water had broken inside her home," she said. "My partner, Chris Sommer, and I raced to the home."
She said they got there at 2:35 a.m. and the mother had already delivered the baby. This is their second child; the couple has a toddler who was with his grandparents that evening.

"By 2:40 a.m. the baby had been born," she said. "It happened in her bedroom. She was lying on the floor. When we first got the call the contractions were 4-6 minutes apart and I guess this baby just couldn't wait."
"When we got there the mother and baby were both doing very, very well. The mother was very calm. After you give birth, huge amounts of adrenaline kick in and some women shake after giving birth. We have a childbirth kit and we administered it to the mother and baby and cut the umbilical cord."
"The mom just kept saying I can't believe this happened, I can't believe I just birth in my bedroom," said DeBeVoise. "She was just happy her baby was healthy and that everything went really well. Her husband was there and he was so sweaty. It was very, very hot outside and in the house that night."
"It really was the most heartwarming thing I've ever been a part of," she said.
Said Aberdeen Police in a statement on Facebook:
"On July 7th, 2023 around 2:30AM Aberdeen Township Police Department Officers responded to a residence on Delaware Avenue for a mother in labor. We are proud to announce with the assistance of Bayshore EMS, these officers successfully delivered a baby girl. We are happy to report that both mother and child are doing well and are healthy. Congratulations to the family!!!!"
The woman had been planning to go to the hospital, but the baby came too soon. After the delivery, Bayshore EMS transported mom and baby to Overlook Medical Center in Summit.
