Former Fashion Designer, WWII Veteran Dies at 90

He received a Unit Citation and four campaign medals while serving as a corporal in the 7th Army Quartermaster Corps.

Lewis J. Petrillo, 90, of Collingswood, formerly of Aberdeen, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, Camden. 

He was born in Jersey City on the 4th of July, 1923. He moved to Aberdeen in 1962 and most recently to Collingswood, NJ. He graduated from Traphagen School of Fashion in NYC. His professions included Fashion Designer, Real Estate Agent, and employee of Monmouth Race Track. He was a parishioner of St. Clement’s RC Church, Matawan, and a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, the Aberdeen Democratic Club and VFW Post 4745, Aberdeen. Lewis was a WWII veteran, having participated in the invasion of Southern France. He received a Unit Citation and four campaign medals while serving as a corporal in the 7th Army Quartermaster Corps.  

Lewis was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Rose (Provitola) Petrillo; and his siblings, Angelo and Carmella.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Constance E. (Giaccio) Petrillo; his loving son, Robert Petrillo and wife Peggy of Haddon Heights; his cherished grandchildren, Ryan Petrillo and Stephanie Blind; his son-in-law LT Patrick Blind, and a precious great-grandson, Connor.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Family and friends are invited Thursday, July 11, 2013, from 2-4 & 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ 07735; and Friday, July 12, 2013, 10AM at the funeral home, with an 11AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Clement’s RC Church, Matawan.  Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Keyport, NJ.  To offer the family online condolences, please visit the funeral home website at www.dayfuneralhome.com.
