Matawan Pizza Spot Reviewed By Barstool Sports Pres Dave Portnoy

MATAWAN, NJ — One bite, everyone knows the rules.

Self-proclaimed pizza expert and popular internet personality Dave "El Pres" Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, stopped by Matawan eatery Grana Pizza Cafe to see if its pizza could stand up to his discerning taste buds.

And Grana Pizza Cafe passed with flying colors.

Portnoy posts daily pizza reviews to his millions of social media followers, scoring pies on a stringent 1 to 10 scale. The videos, which often go viral, usually start with Portnoy's catch phrase, "One bite, everyone knows the rules."

Portnoy posted his review of Grana Pizza Cafe Thursday, remarking before he even took a bite the pizza looks like a "high seven," a good score by Portnoy's standards.

"It looks pretty good, like that's a good looking pie. I like that style," Portnoy said standing outside of the restaurant. "This style if done properly usually is a high seven."

Turns out, the pie lived up to Portnoy's expectations. He gave it a score of 7.7.

"This pizza is good. A lot of sauce. It's good, quality pizza I mean what else gonna say about this," Portnoy said. "It's a fastball, a little bit of movement, you got to put a good swing on the ball or not you're not gonna hit. 7.7"

Formerly Ciro's Pizza Cafe, Grana Pizza Cafe was opened in 2011 by Ciro Pappalardo, according to the restaurant's Facebook page. Located on the border of Matawan and Old Bridge, it serves both Monmouth and Middlesex counties. It is located at 25 Morristown Road.
