Man Tried To Remove Pride Flag From Monmouth County Doughnut Shop: Police
Police say he returned to the doughnut shop and made Nazi salute gestures and simulated sexual acts from the road.
MATAWAN, NJ — A 61-year-old Holmdel man was charged with bias intimidation after police say he tried to remove a rainbow pride flag that was hanging in a Matawan doughnut shop.
At 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Matawan Police were called to Main Street Donuts at 141 Main Street. It was the business owner who called 911. He said a white man, with a T-shirt tied around his face as a mask, to hide his identity, tried to pull down the pride flag from the front of his business.
The business owner tried to stop the man, and the two struggled. The man filed the scene, but Matawan Police obtained a photo of his license plate.

While canvassing the area, police located Maciej Wojciak, 61, of Holmdel. Police say he returned to the doughnut shop and made Nazi salute gestures and simulated sexual acts from the road. He also threatened to burn down the doughnut shop, said police.
Main Street Donuts has been in business since 2022 in Matawan; it is owned by Joe Rizzuto and Rick Canero, a married couple who also operate a doughnut store in Belmar.

Rizzuto told the Asbury Park Press the man was also "dressed like Trump, with a MAGA hat and a wig.”
Wojciak was taken into police custody a short time later that day. He was charged with bias intimidation, terroristic threats, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. He was taken to the Monmouth County Jail.
Supporters flocked to Main Street Donuts after the incident, and photos on social media show a line of customers out the door Sunday morning, in a show of support.
