Opening Date For New Old Bridge ShopRite On Rt. 9 South Announced

Get ready, Old Bridge: The new ShopRite on Rt. 9 south at Schulmeister Road opens March 17. What to expect from the new store:

OLD BRIDGE, NJ — It was big news when we announced last week that a Target and ShopRite are opening very soon on Rt. 9 south in Old Bridge.

And now an opening date has been announced for the ShopRite: The new grocery store will open its doors at 8 a.m. March 17, the Old Bridge ShopRite announced on their Facebook page.

The existing ShopRite of Old Bridge will close on Saturday, March 16, the day before the grand opening of the new location.

A few things you can expect from the grand opening:

  • Doors will open at 8 a.m. (after that they won't close, as the new Old Bridge ShopRite will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week)
  • First 200 in line will get a FREE swag bag (ShopRite insiders will also get an additional special surprise)
  • Free coffee and pastries from 8-10 a.m.
  • Ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. with special guests
  • DJ, Irish step dancers and a bagpiper to mark St. Patrick’s Day, food samples and activities from 11-4 p.m.

The Old Bridge ShopRite will be located in the Glenwood Green development complex, located on Rt. 9 south, at Schulmeister Road. (Rt. 9 Fairway Plaza in Old Bridge)

What about the Target?

The Target that's also coming there did not yet announce an opening date, but it will likely be sometime in April.

According to a press release from ShopRite, here's what the new Old Bridge ShopRite will have:

  • 80,000-square-foot store
  • Will offer customers "a curated, elevated shopping experience that is unmatched in the area."
  • NYC favorite brands such as Gourmet Garage, Fairway Market and Ruby Foos
  • A café with a name – the Knight’s Loft – that was inspired by Old Bridge High School athletic teams.
  • An expanded produce department will boast a colorful bounty of organics, fresh cut fruit and vegetables and specialty grapes and berries.
  • Chef-prepared grab-and-go options including hand-rolled sushi, gourmet meals and sandwiches, a Shuk Kosher kitchen and prepared meals, over 600 varieties of cheeses, and specialty soup and coffee bars that incorporate the popular Gourmet Garage and Fairway Market brands.
  • The store also includes a pharmacy.
  • Ruby Foo’s Asian Fusion meals & sushi (reminiscent of the NYC restaurant)
  • Shuk Kosher Kitchen with certified kosher grab & go meals and Kosher for Passover section
  • Fairway Artisanal Cheese Department with Master Cheesemonger to hand-select the best cheeses from around the world
  • Global Flavors Aisle destination with foods from around the world
  • Fairway Market’s Signature Olive Bar featuring over 30+ varieties of olives and pickles
  • NYC’s culinary scene with chef prepared meals, sides and soups from Gourmet Garage
  • Knight’s Loft Cafe where visistors can sit and eat
  • The Fairway Market Coffee Bar offers everything for the coffee connoisseur, including 20 iconic Fairway bulk blends and seven different bean grinders for everything from an electric perk to an Espresso machine.
  • The self-serve coffee bar provides a variety of options from hot Americanos, lattes, cappuccinos, macchiato, cold brew, iced coffee and hot chocolate. Shoppers in a hurry can access the coffee bar through a separate entrance and check themselves out with a tap and pay feature at checkout.

“It was important to us that the community be part of the planning, and Old Bridge residents told us they wanted premium quality and inspiration,” said Perry Blatt, director of business development for Village Super Market, Inc., the family-run business that owns and operates the new Old Bridge ShopRite. “We offer all the value and variety of ShopRite with lots of special surprises we believe customers will love.”

Midnight Madness sale on March 24, apply to work at new ShopRite of Old Bridge

Shoppers can also expect special events such as a celebratory Midnight Madness sale on Sunday, March 24, with special deals from midnight to 6 a.m., and future foodie events like oyster tastings and tuna, monkfish and cod cuttings. Butchers will be available in the meat department to custom cut orders and make recommendations, and customers can get lobster and shrimp steamed for free in the seafood department. Custom orders for the Easter Holiday can also be made through online reservations at shoprite.com/orderexpress.

The new ShopRite of Old Bridge also continues to hire for new full- and part-time jobs. Interested applicants can visit the careers section at ShopRite.com or the hiring office located next door to the new store.

ShopRite is owned by Wakefern Food Corp., a retailer-owned cooperative based in Keasbey, NJ, and the largest supermarket cooperative in the United States. With nearly 280 ShopRite supermarkets located throughout New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware and Maryland, ShopRite serves millions of customers each week.

The Old Bridge ShopRite is owned by Village Supermarkets, a member of the retailer-owned supermarket cooperative Wakefern Food Corp. Village Supermarkets currently operates 30 ShopRite supermarkets throughout New Jersey, New York and eastern Pennsylvania, as well as four specialty markets under the Gourmet Garage and Fairway Market brands in Manhattan.

What else is coming to Glenwood Green:

According to the Glenwood Green website from Regency, here is what's already confirmed to open there:

  • A Wawa gas station
  • Duck Donuts
  • Turning Point breakfast/brunch/lunch spot
  • Paris Baguette Bakery and Cafe
  • Gregory's coffee
  • Honeygrow salads
  • SugaringNYC lash and waxing studio
  • Chipotle
  • Shake Shack

There will also be a healthcare building on site (operated by Rendina Healthcare), and more than 1,200 new apartments are currently under construction at Glenwood Green.
