CHP Collaborates with Rutgers Department of Landscape Architecture

A collaboration between Rutgers University Landscape Architecture Department, the New Jersey Institute of Nature, and Cedar Hill Prep School has been taking place since February 7th.

First, the CHP and Rutgers University students learned to read landscape architecture during a visit to NJIN in February. Each group of students learned about “Planting Design with Permaculture” during a slideshow presentation that Mr. Deisher gave two weeks after the initial site visit.

On the 7th and 8th Grade students’ March visit to NJIN, the students began a site analysis and learned to measure scale by counting their steps between landmarks. The next step in the process took place on March 21st at Rutgers University. The Rutgers Landscape Architecture Department students presented their rain garden and outdoor classroom designs for the New Jersey Institute of Nature.

Due to the constraints of the classroom space at Rutgers, a small contingent from CHP will represent the school during the presentations. Accompanying Ms. Nan and Mr. Deisher to Rutgers University, the following students have been selected to take notes on the presentation and report back to their respective classes and the CHP Green Team. These students have demonstrated initiative and motivation in learning about permaculture, landscape design, and sustainable agriculture: Reina F., Aakash M., and Ayan J.
