A condominium fire in Sayreville that tore through several units displaced multiple families Sunday afternoon, officials said.
SAYREVILLE, NJ - A condominium fire in Sayreville that tore through several units displaced multiple families Sunday afternoon, officials said.
The structure fire in the Sheffield Mews Condominium Complex on Dancaster Court, which stemmed from #18 Dancaster Court, spread to a total of three other units, Sayreville police said in a statement. No injuries were reported as of Sunday afternoon.
Sayreville Fire department, alongside the South Amboy, Perth Amboy, and Hopelawn fire departments, worked for several hours to get the fire under control, Sayreville Police Lt. James Novak told Patch.

The Red Cross was at the scene Sunday helping displaced families, police added.
“Our volunteers responded to the home #fire on Dancaster Court in Sayreville, helping 6 people in 2 families with Red Cross emergency assistance for temporary lodging, food, clothing and other immediate needs,” the New Jersey Red Cross said in a statement Sunday afternoon.

Sayreville Police Detective Matthew Kenny and Fire Marshall Kevin Krushinski are currently investigating the cause and origin of the fire, Novak said.
The fire may have stemmed from a gas line issue, NJ.com reported.
