Obituary: Viola Fischer, 87, of Middletown

She worked at Lily Tulip in Holmdel and later at Monmouth Building Center in Shrewsbury.

Viola Fischer, 87, of Middletown, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 4th, at CareOne King James Nursing Home, surrounded by her family. Viola was born in Jersey City and attended St. Paul's Grammar and Snyder H.S. She moved to Laurence Harbor in 1950 and later to Middletown, where she resided for more than 40 years. She worked at Lily Tulip in Holmdel and later at Monmouth Building Center in Shrewsbury. She fought a valiant battle against Parkinson's Disease for the past 15 years. Viola enjoyed attending St. Catherine's Parish, and bringing Fr. Dan homemade soup. She also enjoyed camping trips with her sisters and visits to Atlantic City.

Viola was predeceased by her brothers, Thomas Brock, Francis Brock, and James Brock and by her sisters, Mary Pearson, Claire Brock, and Margaret Quoos. She is survived by her sister, Catherine Clapp of Cape Cod, MA. Also surviving are her daughter, Lynn Fischer of Middletown; her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Silika Fischer of Edison; and her grandson and his wife, Robert and Makereta Buys of Middletown.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2013 from 2 to 4 pm and from 7 to 9 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Rd., Middletown. Funeral services are scheduled for 9 am on Monday, September 9 at the funeral home. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered at 10 am at St. Catherine Laboure Church, 110 Bray Ave., Middletown. Entombment will follow at Holmdel Cemetery.
