$1.6 Million Reconstruction of Two Millburn Bridges Complete

The $1.6 million reconstruction of two bridges on Parsonage Hill Road over JFK Parkway and Canoe Brook were completed at the end of last week.

Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. and special guest, Houston Astros Manager and Newark native, Marquis “Bo” Porter, joined Mayor Sandra Haimoff cutting the ribbon over JFK Parkway.

"I am just delighted because I no longer have to take 30 minutes to get home I can do back in 5 minutes," Haimoff said, thanking DiVincenzo. "Good job."

According to DiVincenzo, the reconstruction of the bridges is part of his ongoing initiative to modern infrastructure and enhance safety on county roads for motorists and pedestrians.

“The public relies on our county roads and bridges as avenues to travel to work, transport their children to school and conduct errands,” DiVincenzo said. “Making sure our infrastructure meets the changing and increasing needs of residents and provides a safe environment for motorists and pedestrians is a priority.”

The project, which started in April, was designed by Hatch Mott MacDolnald, of Millburn, for a $312,121 contract. Colonelli Brothers, Inc., of Hackensack performed the construction. 

"I am going to be completely involved in helping Joe in any capacity that I can to continue the great works that are taking place here in Essex County," Porter said. "It is tremendous what is taking place here in New Jersey."

In 2011, the county replaced the Millburn Avenue bridge for $1.7 million. The Passaic Avenue bridge was also replaced in 2007 for $3 million. NJ Department of Transportation grants funded both projects.
