Five Unlocked Cars Burglarized Overnight

Police are investigating a string of car break-ins overnight Saturday throughout town where items valued at more than $1,200 were reported stolen, Millburn police say.

Five unlocked cars were burglarized overnight in Millburn Saturday with a variety of items taken totaling more than $1,200, according to Capt. Michael Palardy. 

In the first incident, a Greenwood Drive resident told police Sunday morning both her and husband's unlocked cars were burglarized between 10:30 p.m. on May 11 and 8:30 a.m. on May 12.

The resident reported a $100 Marc Jacobs wallet, John Varvatos sunglasses, valued at $245, and numerous gifts and credit cards were missing, police said.

According to the report, the credit cards were reportedly used at Dunkin Donuts and a gas station in Newark. 

A block away, two Rahway residents told police their unlocked cars were also burglarized between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

One of the residents had almost $700 in items taken from her car including:

  • Rayban sunglasses, valued at $200
  • Ralph Lauren sunglasses, also valued at $200
  • Calvin Kelin shirt, valued at $100
  • Old Navy shorts, shirts and bathing suits with a total value of $150
  • two cell phone car chargers, valued at $30
  • a $15 garage door opener.

Additionally, a Rahway resident reported Sunday his two cars were entered sometime overnight, resulting in a few items missing, police said.

The resident reported a pair of $100 sunglasses and a Garmin GPS, valued at $150, were taken, police said.

One of his neighbors told police he saw a small dark-colored sedan parked with its headlights on in front of the house when he came home at around 1 a.m.
