Millburn Library To Undergo Renovations; Pop-Up Will Be Open
While renovations to the library begin in October, a pop-up "mini library" will be held in the former Annie Sez store on Millburn Avenue.

MILLBURN, NJ — Beginning in October, Millburn Public Library will be under a major renovation — but residents can use a temporary "mini library" in the former Annie Sez store on Millburn Avenue.
While the building is being renovated, the main library is expected to be closed for 14 weeks, starting Oct. 1.
The temporary “mini library” with select services will be open at 253 Millburn Ave., about three blocks from the main library. Some staff and services will still be available virtually, just as throughout the height of the 2020 pandemic. The mini library will have a small collection of books, periodicals, computers, and more, seven days a week.

What's Changing
During the renovation, the Children’s Area will be expanded by nearly 20 percent and receive new seating, additional shelving and upgraded design. The new layout will give staff a better view over the entire space. New shelving will accommodate growing collections and additional seating will be useful for programming in the future, such as popular classes like Storytime and hands-on crafts.

The Teen Space will be relocated to benefit teens who come to the library after school, allowing for collaboration and socialization in an area of their own. The new space will be located under the mezzanine in an enclosed room, creating better sound control and a better library experience for those seeking a quiet place to study and relax.
The existing teen area will be revamped into a comfortable seating lounge near windows overlooking the South Mountain Reservation. Additional features include new service desks for the Circulation & Information area, as well as new carpeting, lighting and other changes.
Millburn Library cardholders can also receive walk-in library service from all BCCLS libraries, including nearby Livingston and Maplewood. Holds placed on a library account can be sent for pick-up at any branch of one’s choosing. Additionally, Millburn cardholders have special reciprocal privileges with Summit Library, allowing in-person service there.
The funding for this renovation comes from $150,000 in capital support from the Township of Millburn and $30,000 from the Friends of Millburn Library. Areas not addressed in this round of renovation will be addressed in the future as funding allows.
