Millburn Township Police Department Adds Two Hybrid-Electric Vehicles

The Millburn Township Police Department is going green with the newest additions to its patrol fleet: two new hybrid-electric Ford Escape Police Parking Enforcement patrol vehicles.

The new Ford Escape enforcement vehicles provide increased fuel economy when compared to conventional gasoline engines. When charged, the vehicles are fully electric up to 37 miles and can get up to 40 miles to the gallon when the gas engine is active.

“With the purchase of the hybrid enforcement vehicles, everyone wins,” Police Chief Brian Gilfedder said. “We have new vehicles added to the fleet that are environmentally conscious and our officers have already noticed they are fueling up less frequently.”

In addition to parking enforcement duties, the vehicles will also assist with school postings, township events, and other traffic duties.

Two new parking enforcement vehicles The Parking Enforcement patrol vehicles—designated as P1 and P2—are white Ford Escapes that were purchased through the capital budget. The vehicles will have their own dedicated charging station at the Police Department. They are outfitted with a state of the art light bar, siren, and grill lights.
