Millers Beat West Essex, Remain Tied for First

The victory improves Millburn's overall record to 16-3.

The Millburn varsity baseball won over West Essex in a 7-5 victory Wednesday in North Caldwell.

Juniors Nick Meo and Evy Ruibal provided the offensive punch while seniors Jordan Wenik and James Mynott provided stellar relief pitching to propel Millburn to win on May 1.

The victory improves Millburn's overall record to 16-3. The Millers remain tied with Seton Hall Prep for first place in the American Division of the Super Essex Conference with identical 10-1 league records. Each team has two remaining league games.

Meo roped a three-run double that keyed a five-run uprising in the second inning that provided Millburn with the early 7-1 lead. Ruibal finished with three hits and three RBI for Millburn. Wenik (2-0) and Mynott threw the final four and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one earned run and five hits while striking out four batters.

Millburn is back in action on Friday, May 3 when it hosts Montclair in its penultimate conference game. The team begins its quest for a Greater Newark Tournament championship on Saturday, May 4 when it hosts a first-round game at 3 pm against the winner of Montclair-Kimberely and Science Park.
