
Arrest
- Joseph Canas, 21, of Newark was arrested on open warrants out of Newark totaling $750. On Wednesday November 5, officers located a suspicious vehicle parked on the shoulder of Harrison Avenue near Llewelyn Road. When patrol vehicles approached the vehicle, operated by Canas, it pulled away and drove into the rear parking lot of The Heights condominium complex.
Robbery
- In the area of Washington Street and Orange Road, a 30-year-old Kearney man reported that he was the victim of an armed robbery on Friday November 7 at 5:30 p.m. The victim explained that he believed he was meeting a Craigslist seller in order to purchase an Apple Macbook laptop. The victim stated that he arrived on Washington Street, as arranged, remaining seated in his vehicle. The suspect approached his driver side window, pointing a handgun at him. The suspect demanded cash and the victim’s cellular telephone. The victim handed over $350 cash and an Apple iPhone 5. The actor then fled on foot towards Orange Road. The suspect is described as a black male, 6’ in height, thin build, dark skin, wearing a dark blue jump suit. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective D. Rullo at 973-509-4717.
Theft
- Officers responded to The Center of Healthy Living, 292 Bloomfield Avenue, on a report of a theft, on Tuesday November 4 . The victim explained that on November 3 between 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., someone had entered the business and stolen a Toshiba laptop from their reception desk. An adult female and a juvenile female had entered the business soliciting for donations during that time period. They are described as a black female, approximately 40-years-old, average build, with short hair. The juvenile was a black female approximately 11-years-old, carrying a folder. - Officers responded to Alvin Place on a report of a stolen motor vehicle, on Wednesday November 5. The victim explained that their vehicle was stolen between 9:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. that date. The vehicle is described as a black Ford EC3, with a cracked windshield. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective J. Anderson at 973-509-4706.
- An iPhone 6 cellphone was stolen out of a victim’s pocket at the Chill Lounge located at 310 Bloomfield Avenue, on Wednesday November 5. The phone, stolen on the dance floor, was black, in a black Speck Case. Anyone with information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751.
Burglary
- An Orange Road resident reported that they were the victim of a burglary on November Tuesday 4. They explained that between Sunday November 2 and Tuesday November 4, someone had entered the apartment and stolen $300 cash from a wallet. There were no signs of forced entry. - A Mt. Vernon Road resident reported that they were the victim of a burglary on Tuesday November 4. They stated that they had left the residence at 9:00 a.m., and upon returning at 6:30 p.m., they discovered that their rear door had been kicked in. The suspects ransacked the master bedroom, stealing a gold necklace with diamond pendant, valued at $2000. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective D. Rullo at 973-509-4717.
Bicycle
- A bicycle was stolen from the bike rack at the Watchung Train Station, on November 4 between 8:30 a.m. and 7:15 p.m. The bicycle is described as a 26” Schwinn Mountain Bike. - On Wednesday November 5, a bicycle was recovered on Champlain Terrace. This bicycle had been chained to the Board of Education property at Champlain Terrace and Essex Avenue for the past two weeks. It is described as a black 18 speed bicycle, which had been repainted. There were no other markings to identify this bicycle. - On Wednesday November 5 a victim reported that between 7:30 p.m. on November 4 and 7:53 p.m. that date, his bicycle was stolen from the bike rack at the Walnut Train Station. The bicycle is described as a black Schwinn Billyburg with a removable brown seat and side basket. The bicycle was chained to the rack prior to its theft. Miscellaneous
- A parked vehicle had its tires slashed in the area of Valley Road and Claremont Avenue, on Tuesday November 4, between 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. The vehicle, a white GMC Yukon, was found to have three punctured tires. - An Officer on patrol in the area of Alexander Court observed two vehicles with slashed tires, On November 6. The vehicles are described as a Mazda MX5 and a Chevy Pickup. The damage had occurred sometime in the past two days. Anyone with information is asked to contact our Detective Bureau at 973-509-7543.
- MPD and MFD responded to overlook Road on a report of a working fire on Saturday November 8. Upon arriving, MFD extinguished the blaze, which had caused extensive damage to a detached garage. No injuries reported. MFD is investigating the cause of the fire.
