To A Great Book Fair And Beyond!

The Montclair Cooperative School, in conjunction with Watchung Booksellers, will hold their first Independent Book Fair this Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. 

The books, a mix of contemporary titles as well as not-to-be missed classics have been handpicked by a team from Watchung Booksellers. 

Visitors will also find a staff-choice table with some lesser-known books the cooperative says, “no child should grow up without reading.” 

Another table will include choices from the cooperative staff and their families and reflect themes ranging from diversity to parent education. 

Sunday’s events will also include: 

● At 12:30 p.m., Yona Zeldis McDonough, author of “The Doll House Downstairs” and other books, including the biography of Rosa Parks from the popular “Who Was…” series, will discuss the book-making process and will read through her forthcoming sequel, “The Cats in the Doll Shop.” 

● At 1:30 p.m., author, artist and co-op parent Kevin Pyle performs a dramatic reading  —with pictures — from one of his non-conformist coming-of-age graphic novels, which include “Katman” and “Blindspot.” 

● At 2:30 p.m., Maplewood writer Marina Budhos will discuss her newest young adult book, “Tell Us We're Home,” exploring the friendships among three immigrant girls, all daughters of maids and nannies in a Northern New Jersey town. 

The book fair continues Monday Oct. 24th from 8:45 a.m. until  4:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 25th from 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m and 2 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. 

On Monday, author Tom Yezerski will speak to co-op fourth and fifth graders about his book “The Meadowlands: A Wetlands Survival Story,” about the effort to restore one of our area’s most significant natural treasures. 

The Montclair Co-op is located at 65 Chestnut St. in Montclair.
