Montclair Council Conference Held Tuesday

The township manager will preview legislation governing community gardens in town, among other things.

The Montclair Township Council will meet Tuesday for a council conference at 7 p.m. in the municipal building, at 205 Claremont Ave.  

Township Manager Marc Dashield will preview upcoming agenda items such as an amendment governing community gardens in Montclair. The Montclair Planning Board drafted the legislation that will govern community gardens, chicken coops and apiaries. The recommendations will go before the council for a vote during a future meeting. 

The township manager will also discuss measures to amend the Montclair Center Gateway redevelopment plan, and those designating 110 Orange Road 30 North Mountain Avenue historical sites.

At the previous council meeting last week, the council’s Financial Committee unveiled a new commitment to funding services that have been reduced in recent years.

The committee nixed more $180,000 in the previously proposed budget to invest more in libraries, schools and homeless organizations. The committee also proposed to decrease the originally proposed tax levy increase of 2.4 percent to 1.9 percent.
