Proposed 5-Story Building In Montclair Raises Questions: Video
A developer wants to build a mixed-use building on Elm Street in Montclair. It would have 22 units, including four affordable housing units.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A developer wants to build a five-story, mixed-use building on Elm Street in Montclair, a proposal that was discussed during the planning board’s most recent meeting.
The board continued its hearing for Irvington-based AD Holding’s plan for 10 Elm Street on Monday (watch the video below).
The applicant is proposing to demolish the existing commercial building and construct a new, five-story building with 1,100 square feet of office space and 22 residential units. Four of those units would be designated for affordable housing, according to the application.

Some planning board members questioned whether the proposal conforms to the municipal master plan, which states that the maximum height for the area should be four stories, Montclair Local reported.
However, the property is in the C-1 Central Business Zone, which allows six stories for some projects – an apparent inconsistency, Montclair Planning Director Janice Talley said.
