Annual Christmas Festival, Santa Claus Are Coming Back To Morristown

The beloved holiday festival will kick off with Santa's arrival on Dec. 2, transforming the downtown into a winter wonderland.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — The Morristown Green is about to be transformed into a winter wonderland once more. The Morristown Green Christmas Festival will begin with Santa's arrival on Dec. 2 at 5 p.m.

Family activities, entertainment and Santa visits and photos will take place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout December until Dec. 18.

For over a century, generations of residents and visitors have come to the heart of downtown Morristown to experience the magic of the holiday season. It all started in 1913 with a small group of festive volunteers lighting a single star atop one tree on the Morristown Green.

Since then, this tradition has spread holiday cheer to countless families with the addition of a Santa House, holiday music and crafts, a vintage-style oversized rocking horse, ice sculpture demonstrations and free rides around the Green on a miniature electric trail.

All activities at the Christmas festival are free, with the exception of a $15 fee for photos with Santa. The Morristown Partnership, which is presenting the event, has a full slate of activities for this year's festival.

As in previous years, Santa's arrival will coincide with the "Countdown to the Lighting of the Green," which will feature seasonal decor, thousands of lights on the Green and lamppost wreaths throughout town.

Clarification: An earlier version of this story gave the arrival date as Nov. 27. Due to weather, Santa's arrival has since been postponed until Dec. 2.
