Select areas in Morristown may experience service interruptions due to planned construction on South Street.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Water service may be disrupted in select areas around Morristown between the hours of 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. this week due to the planned construction of the water main in Greater Morristown.

According to Morris County officials, the Southeast Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (SMCMUA) began a $3.2 million project earlier this year to replace 1.53 miles of water main in greater Morristown.

Between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on November 7 and 9, construction on South Street between Pine Street and Dehart Street may result in reduced water service and discolored water.

Morristown workers are replacing the city's oldest unlined, cast-iron main lines, which were installed in the 1890s. Washington Street will be connected to Conklin Avenue by the new main, and South Street will be connected to James Street.

In addition, the utility company intends to replace 30 fire hydrants and install 40 new water meters and meter pits throughout Morristown as part of the project.
