MORRISTOWN, NJ — With Saint Patrick's Day just around the corner, you might be wondering, just how Irish is Morristown?
According to U.S. Census Data, roughly 1.8 million New Jerseyans claim to have Irish blood. In Morris County, that number is 86,859, or approximately 17.6 percent of the total population, per U.S. Census estimates published in 2022.
That’s compared to the average 9.7 percent of people in the U.S. with Irish ancestry as a percentage of each county’s population.

With a population of more than 30 percent of Irish descent, Cape May County holds the distinction of having the most residents of Irish ancestry in the Garden State.
In fact, Irish people make up over 20 percent of the population in five other counties in the state: Warren, Sussex, Monmouth, Ocean and Gloucester.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2021 American Community Survey, about 9278 Morristown residents claim Irish heritage, or 20 percent.
