MORRISTOWN, NJ — Max Bellamente, a senior at Morristown High School, proposed the idea of a flag design competition during the Town Council meeting last week, which was met with support by Mayor Tim Dougherty.

Bellamente stated that he is unaware of a Morristown flag and believes that, having seen the pride Madison Borough has in its town flag, Morristown would benefit from having one to help foster town pride.

"I could not find any kind of official or unofficial flag of Morristown, so what I'm suggesting is that we have a town-wide contest to design and vote on a flag for Morristown that we can display in public places like Town Hall or the Green," Bellamente said.

Bellamente stated that he would like to help organize this contest and that he would like to meet with someone from the mayor's office or the Town Council to discuss this further.

Dougherty praised the idea and advised Gellamente to leave his contact information with Town Administrator Jillian Barrick. The council said they would also try to find any old remnants of the old flag design.

According to Dougherty, a flag was designed as part of a contest in 1972, but it never made it to the council. "That’s great, I think we should bring it back up, I think it would be a lot of fun."
