More Than 60 Trees To Be Planted Around Morristown

The tree planting will help in reducing summer peak temperatures and air pollution, according to officials.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Trees play an important role in urban environments, providing shade during the summer heat, improving air quality and filtering and retaining stormwater.

Earlier this month, Morristown officials approved the solicitation of bids for the planting of 68 trees of 12 different species and three different sizes. Cerbo's Parsippany Greenhouse, Inc. submitted a bid and was chosen by the township, according to the council agenda.

The council intends to discuss this matter at the Oct. 25 council meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

According to the agenda, the Mayor is looking to execute a contract with Cerbo’s Parsippany Greenhouse, Inc. for this year's tree planting. The $39,460 bid also includes a separate price for tree watering, which is to be conducted between June and September.

The plantings are intended to help add to the existing Morristown tree canopy, which helps in reducing summer peak temperatures and air pollution.

The Arbor Day Foundation named Morristown "Tree City USA" for the 8th year in a row in recognition of its dedication to effective urban forest management, and officials believe initiatives such as tree planting have contributed to the recognition.

Morristown received the recognition through meeting the program's four requirements — a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
