Sherrill Wins NJ-11 Congress Seat Again, Over DeGroot, AP Predicts

Mikie Sherrill has won re-election in New Jersey's 11th congressional district.

NEW JERSEY, NJ — The polls have closed as of 8 p.m. in New Jersey.

The Associated Press declared Democratic incumbent Mikie Sherrill as the winner with only 93.15 percent of the expected vote counted. The vote tallies remain unofficial until they are certified later by the Morris, Essex and Passaic County clerk offices.

Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill has fended off a challenge from Republican nominee Paul DeGroot in this year’s general election.

The following municipalities are included in the recently redrew 11th District:

  • Essex – Belleville, Bloomfield, Cedar Grove, Fairfield, Glen Ridge, Livingston, Maplewood, Millburn, Montclair (part), North Caldwell, Nutley, Roseland, South Orange, West Caldwell
  • Morris – Boonton, Boonton Township, Butler, Chatham, Chatham Township, Denville, Dover, East Hanover, Florham Park, Hanover, Harding, Jefferson, Kinnelon, Lincoln Park, Madison, Mendham Twp (part), Montville, Morris Plains, Morris Township, Morristown Town, Mountain Lakes, Parsippany-Troy Hills, Pequannock, Randolph, Riverdale, Rockaway, Rockaway Township, Victory Gardens
  • Passaic – Little Falls, Totowa, Wayne (part), Woodland Park

The election results are still uncertified. But as of Tuesday night, the Associated Press has declared Sherrill the winner. With 305 of 601 precincts reported, here are the unofficial results:

  • Sherrill: 146,608
  • DeGroot: 104,745
