Scammers Posing As Morris Plains Police Officers, Department Warns
If someone claims they are from the police and attempts to solicit money from you, hang up, then call Morris Plains police, officials said.
MORRIS PLAINS, NJ — The Morris Plains Police Department is warning residents about a phone scam where the caller claims to be with the police department.
A resident who received one of the calls told police the scammer was attempting to solicit money and used a "spoofing" device that made it appear the call was coming from the Morris Plains Police Department's phone number, 973-538-2284, on Caller ID.
According to police, the caller identified themselves as "Officer Mark Stevens" and requested that the victim obtain money from an ATM and deposit it into another account.

"We would like to remind everyone that our agency will never call you in an attempt to obtain money," police said.
Anyone who believes they have been a victim of a scam or any other type of fraudulent activity should contact the department at 973-538-2284.
