3 Newark Women Who Lost Lives In Passaic River Remembered With Plaque Dedication

The ceremony was held near the site of the car crash that claimed the lives of Nicole Floyd, Monique Hawkins and Gail Williams.

NEWARK, NJ — Three Newark women who lost their lives in the Passaic River more than two decades ago were remembered and honored during a plaque dedication ceremony this week.

The ceremony was held near the site of the car crash that claimed the lives of Nicole Floyd, Monique Hawkins and Gail Williams on Oct. 24, 2004.

“This moment was a heartfelt reminder of the importance of celebrating life and ensuring that their memory continues to live on through their families, friends and our community,” Newark Councilman Michael Silva said.

Hawkins, 39, Floyd, 34, and the driver, Williams, 43, drowned after their vehicle veered off Raymond Boulevard and plunged into the Passaic River. A settlement was later reached between the city and two of the women’s families.
