Armed Robbery Suspects Caught While Trying to Flee, Police Say
Robbery occurred blocks from new 'mini-precinct' opened last week

Newark police arrested two men Wednesday night moments after they and an accomplice had robbed a grocery store, the department said in a statement.
Officers patrolling the 100 block of Grove Terrace saw the three running from a grocery store and jump into a Toyota. An employee flagged them down and informed them the men had just robbed the store.
Police chased the car to South Munn Avenue, where it struck a parked car. The three then jumped out and fled on foot through nearby backyards.
Two suspects, Khalil Bryant, 19, and Terril Ford, both of Orange, were charged with robbery, weapons offenses, resisting arrest and interception of an official communication. Bryant was further charged with eluding.
Samuel DeMaio, the director of the department, credited the recently opened mini-precinct on South Orange Avenue as a factor in the swift apprehension of the suspects. The mini-precinct, which officially opened March 22, is a few blocks from Grove Terrace.
“A few days after opening the 4th Mini Precinct the officers assigned to patrol the surrounding area apprehended these violent criminals. This is a testament of the progress that could be made when the police department and the city council work together to combat the criminal element that plagues our city streets,” DeMaio said.
