City Man Sentenced to Life for 2009 Shooting
Lloyd sentenced under state's 'three strikes' law.

A city man who went on a shooting spree outside a supermarket in 2009 was sentenced Tuesday to life without parole on an attempted murder charge, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Kevin Lloyd, 44, had already been convicted by a jury in 2011 of attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons offenses.
Two years earlier, on Aug. 8, 2009, Lloyd opened fire with a large-caliber handgun in the parking lot of a supermarket at Avon Avenue and Irvine Turner Boulevard. The parking lot was filled with people, including children, when the shooting occurred around 7 pm, prosecutors said.

On Tuesday, Lloyd was sentenced in connection with the attempted murder of Terrell Smith, 23, who was shot in the back after emerging from a pizzeria at 125 Avon Ave. Witnesses said Lloyd had removed his shirt at the scene, which was recovered by investigators. Lloyd’s DNA was later found on the garment, Carter said.
Lloyd’s sentencing was delayed until Tuesday because he tried to have the conviction set aside.Lloyd received life without parole under the state's "three strikes" law, Carter also said.
