Fighter Donates Winnings to Children's Hospital of New Jersey

California boxer Paul Vasquez inspired by his wife, a pediatric nurse.

Porfessional boxer Paul Vasquez recently visited Children’s Hospital of New Jersey (CHoNJ) at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center to greet hospitalized children and to donate winnings from a boxing match in South Orange June 12.  Vasquez donated $4,000 to CHoNJ for programs for children.

Vasquez, 34, has previously donated funds to the Children’s Miracle Network and Oakland East Bay Area Hospital.  He is known for donating winnings from his boxing matches to the nearest children’s hospital where his matches are held.  He has competed in the area twice over the last six months, in South Orange and in Whippany in March.

“Thank you to Paul Vasquez for his generosity in his time and donations to the Children’s Hospital of New Jersey,” said Darrell K. Terry, Sr., Chief Operating Officer of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey.  “It’s important to distract hospitalized children from focusing on their illness or hospital stay – resources provided from Paul’s donation will help keep children focused on getting better and returning home.”

Vasquez’s donation will be used for toys and for a pediatric massage therapist.
