Flynn Needs A Win: Shelter Life Has ‘Zapped’ Joy From Newark Dog

Flynn used to be a "well of joy and happy smiles." But spending nearly half of his life in an animal shelter has taken its toll, staff say.

On Tuesday, the AHS-Newark shelter put out an adoption call for Flynn, a dog who is available for adoption at 124 Evergreen Avenue.

NEWARK, NJ — Shelter life has “zapped” the once-joyful personality of a dog at the Associated Humane Societies’ facility in Newark. But according to staff at the busy shelter, a family dog like this isn’t meant to be surrounded by the four walls of a kennel – and he deserves all the spotlight he can get.

On Tuesday, the AHS-Newark shelter put out an adoption call for Flynn, who is available at 124 Evergreen Avenue. Learn more about how to apply to adopt an animal at the shelter or its sister facilities in Tinton Falls and Forked River here.

“Flynn used to be a well of joy and happy smiles, but after 1 year with no adoption interest the shelter is becoming too much. Flynn is the ultimate family dog- we aren’t sure why he’s been here so long. He’s extremely friendly with other dogs and is great for teens who can keep up with his energy. He’s even graduated from obedience dog training classes with flying colors. The 2.5-year-old Flynn has been in the shelter almost half his life and that’s a very long time for a dog. The stress is getting to him and has zapped his usually joyful personality. A family dog like Flynn isn’t meant to be surrounded by four walls of a kennel – please come to meet this sweet lovely boy.”

“He’s friendly with dogs and older kids/teens just due to his goofy antics and penchant for jumping to give kisses,” the shelter adds.

Staff members’ fondness for the hard-luck doggo is evident in a video that declares: “You can’t help but love this goober.”
