“If you’d like to add a fruit tree to your property, I encourage you to visit the website and read the description of the tree types so you choose the one that’s the best fit for your yard,” said Renaissance Trees Program coordinator Elena Messina. “Your tree will do best if you plant it where it gets plenty of sunlight and has lots of room to grow.”

Tree planting is a long-term investment in the health and sustainability of the environment, especially in urban areas where trees are urgently needed to offset the impacts of industrialization, pollution and to protect against the effects of climate change.

In addition to the tree giveaway on April 6, the NJ Tree Foundation is also recruiting volunteers for the community tree planting that will take place at the same time on the grounds of the Boylan Street Rec Center from 9 a.m. to noon.

Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome, rain or shine. If interested, please wear closed-toed shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Tools and gloves will be provided. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Elena Messina at emessina@njtreefoundation.org or call 609-439-1755.
