Late Montclair Veterinarian Honored At Town Council Meeting

There is no doubt that George Cameron has left his mark in the hearts of many a pet owner since launching his veterinary practice.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — There is no doubt that George Cameron has left his mark in the hearts of many a pet owner since launching his veterinary practice nearly 50 years ago. Now – after helping tens of thousands of animals in need – the memory of the late Essex County vet continues to live on for those he left behind.

Cameron – a Bloomfield resident and founder of the Cameron Animal Hospital in Montclair – died earlier this month at the age of 87.

The Montclair Town Council presented a proclamation in memoriam of Cameron at their meeting on Tuesday, naming him as a “pillar of the Montclair community.”

“He won many professional accolades in his career, but his greatest pride was his role as a mentor to students and new veterinarians; he guided more than 150 students through college and into veterinary school,” the animal hospital wrote in a heartfelt social media post earlier this month.

“[Cameron’s] other professional joy was his work with stray and abandoned animals,” the hospital continued. “Over the course of his career, he took in thousands of animals, nursing them back to health and eventually finding them homes, through what has become Cameron Animal Rescue. He was never happier than when he had a tiny kitten to cuddle.”
