Newark Dog Is Struggling With Depression After 730 Days In Shelter
"Red" has spent a third of his life behind a kennel door. Rescuers are desperate to find him a home for the holidays.

NEWARK, NJ — For more than a third of his six years, “Red” the dog has found himself waking up behind a kennel door. Now, rescuers are desperate to find the Newark pooch a home for the holidays.
Currently in custody at the Associated Humane Societies shelter in Newark, the “once rambunctious and lively spirited dog” has become “melancholy and depressed,” staff say.
Spending 730 days in an animal shelter will do that to you, they add.

“Two years is an unreasonably long time for a good boy like Red to be at the shelter, and it shows,” the AHS-Newark recently reported.
There’s still one thing that can perk the beloved doggo up: food. But he deserves much more love, his advocates said – pleading for someone to either adopt or foster the longtime shelter resident.
