NEWARK, NJ — Newark officials are asking residents to look out for street flooding – and remember local parking regulations – ahead of a forecasted snowstorm this weekend.

Gov. Phil Murphy has declared a state of emergency ahead of the incoming winter storm. It went into effect at 8 a.m. on Sunday. Read More: State Of Emergency Declared Ahead Of NJ Winter Storm

"Beginning tomorrow morning, we are expecting a winter storm to bring heavy snow, followed by dangerously low temperatures expected on Monday and continuing through Wednesday," Murphy said. "As always, I urge all New Jerseyans to use caution, follow all safety protocols, and remain off the roads unless absolutely necessary."

Preparations are taking place in Newark, which issued its own warning ahead of the storm. Residents can call 973-733-6000 for non-emergency weather-related matters, or dial 911 for emergencies.

BE PREPARED – “The Department of Public Safety is coordinating responses to burglar alarms, flooding conditions, and other weather-related incidents through the combined use of Police, Fire, and Office of Emergency Management Personnel. Special attention should be given to unsecured outdoor furniture, awnings, refuse, and building materials. For fire safety, please utilize flashlights, instead of candles, should you lose electricity due to this weather event.”

PARKING – “Residents are asked to observe the city’s ‘No Parking on Snow Covered Roads’ regulations due to the expected snowfall. Signs have been posted on streets throughout the City of Newark. Motorists are urged to look for the sign pictured below to identify the streets designated for no parking.”

FLOODING – The snow may produce flooding in certain areas. A list of streets that may experience flooding is listed below.
