
A Newark man was charged in what police say was a targeted shooting of a Baltimore man in Carteret April 5, NorthJersey.com reported.
Daniel Gillens, 21, of Newark faces murder and weapons offenses stemming from the shooting, which occurred around 7:20 pm.
Officers on patrol heard gunshots and spotted Deonte Shackleford, 26, wounded on the sidewalk. They also reportedly spotted Gillens fleeing from the scene.
Shackleford was pronounced dead a short time later.
Authorities did not disclose why they believe Gillens targeted Shackleford, who was in the area visiting relatives.
