Newark Man Wanted for Murder Turns Himself In

His attorney stressed that Marcelus Tonic, 25, is innocent.

The man wanted in connection with the weekend shooting death of a Belleville man in Bloomfield surrendered Wednesday to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. 

Marcelus Tonic, 25, of Newark, turned himself in one day after County Prosecutor's Office distributed his photograph and named him as a suspect. According to a report on NJ.com, his lawyer, Steve Brown stressed his innocence but otherwise Tonic did not offer comment.

Tonic was wanted in connection with the shooting death of 24-year-old Ron E. Jean of Belleville. Jean was fatally shot on April 27 at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Beardsley Avenue in Bloomfield and was pronounced dead at 4:06 that morning.
