Newark Man, Youth Accused of Killing Woman, Wounding Two Others

The two were arrested in connection with the shooting death of Laqueebah Murray last month.

A city man and a 15-year-old boy were arrested Tuesday morning and charged with the May 29 murder of Laqueebah Murray, Newark police said.

The department’s fugitive apprehension squad executed an arrest warrant at 121 Shepherd Ave. for Stephon Harris, 22. The teen was arrested at 290 Fairmount Ave.

Murray was shot around 11:30 pm near 78 N. Munn Ave. and pronounced dead at University Hospital shortly afterward. Two other people were also wounded in the shooting.

Harris and the 15-year-old have also been charged with weapons offenses, conspiracy and two counts of aggravated assault, Sgt. Ronald Glover said.

"I am pleased that the individuals responsible for the brazen and reckless acts of violence that left a young woman dead and jeopardized the lives and safety of countless members of our community have been brought to justice. Every arrest of one of these armed and dangerous offenders is another step towards increasing the level of safety and the quality of life here in Newark,” Police Director Samuel DeMaio said in a statement.
