Newark Rally For Harris, Walz Gets Support From Queen Latifah
A rally in New Jersey's largest city will include appearances from Queen Latifah, Naturi Naughton and a lineup of high-profile politicians.

NEWARK, NJ — Queen Latifah is returning to Newark to appear at a political rally this weekend in support of the presidential campaign of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.
Latifah, an Essex County native who helped to build a new housing project in the city, will join Newark Mayor Ras Baraka at the rally on Saturday, Oct. 12. It will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Essex County College gymnasium, 303 University Avenue. People can sign up for free tickets online here.
“This is a pivotal moment for our nation, and we need leadership that reflects the values and hopes of our communities,” said Baraka, who is running for New Jersey governor in 2025.

“My friend and Newark’s own Queen Latifah is a legend not only in the arts but in standing up for justice and equity,” Baraka said. “Together, with leaders from across the state and region, we’re here to encourage people to use their voices and help get out the vote for Harris and Walz come November – the stakes are just too high and we are not going back.”
According to a statement from Baraka’s campaign team, other speakers at the rally will include Rep. Andy Kim, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, Rep. LaMonica McIver, state senators Teresa Ruiz and Nellie Pou, state assemblywoman Shavonda Sumter, Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss, Orange Mayor Dwayne Warren, East Orange Mayor Ted Green, Essex County Democratic Chairman LeRoy Jones Jr., Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. and Ken McNamara of the Communications Workers of America. Actress and singer Naturi Naughton and activist Tamika Mallory will also speak at the rally.
