NEWARK, NJ — It’s one of the most iconic images of summer: children playing in the spray from an open fire hydrant.
Newark firefighters will be opening hydrants to the public this week to help kids find a way to stay cool and have some fun. All are welcome to attend, city officials said.
Hydrants will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. on the following days and locations:

- Tuesday, July 22 - Brookdale Avenue (between Valley Street and 18th Avenue)
- Wednesday, July 23 - Cabinet Street (between Bergen Street and Littleton Avenue)
- Thursday, July 24 - Fabyan Place (between Nye Avenue and Hawthorne Avenue)
- Saturday, July 26 - Johnson Avenue (between Clinton Avenue and Stratford Place)
- Sunday, July 27 – 1st Avenue (between North 5th Street and North 4th Street)
