Police Arrest Robbery, Domestic Violence Suspects
Carteret man allegedly shot victim multiple times
This week the Newark Police Department's Fugitive Apprehension Section arrested a Carteret man wanted in connection with a robbery and shooting incident that occurred shortly before 8 pm March 22 at 59 Spruce St. as well as a city man charged with assaulting the mother of his child.
A 32 year-old Newark man suffered multiple, nonfatal gunshot wounds to his extremities while seated in a vehicle on Spruce Street. The suspect, 30 year-old Sajade Nichols, was arrested without incident on March 26 at 67 Edgar Place in Carteret. Nichols has been charged with assault, robbery and weapons offenses.
Also on March 26, police arrested Tyron Cook, 27, and charged him with burglary, weapons possession, assault and other offenses. Police said Cook kicked in the door of his 26-year-old girlfriend’s home in January and assaulted her after Cook learned she was planning on ending their relationship. The woman suffered a broken toe, bruises and cuts as a result of the attack, police said.
"I commend this unit for the dangerous and important work they do on a daily basis. These arrests often provide closure and relief for victims who may either be living in fear of their attackers while they remain at large or at least gain solace in knowing that the perpetrator has being brought to justice,” Police Director Samuel DeMaio said.
